Russian and Japan continue the cooperation for healthy longevity
The Japanese-Russian Conference in Geriatrics “Live to 100: secrets of Japanese longevity” took place on November 07, 2018 in Saint-Petersburg.
The leading specialists in Geriatrics and Gerontology from Russia and Japan came to the Northern capital of Russia to meet with elderly in the Assembly Hall of North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov to share their knowledge and experience.
The Conference was held in the frame of cross-year Russia and Japan. The cooperation in the area of healthy and active longevity was initiated and supported by the countries. After all, the demographic aging of the population poses serious challenges for states: increase the importance of improving the life quality of elderly; maintain their participation in social and professional life; extend the period of activity, health and independence from external assistance.
The organizers of the Conference were National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (Japan), Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov - Russian Gerontological Clinical Research Centre and North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov.
The welcoming speech was delivered by Sergey A. Sayganov, Rector of North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov; Olga Tkacheva, Chief stand-in geriatrist of the Russian Ministry of Health; Arpheniya Ter-Minasova, Vice-Governor councilor in public health; and Yasumasa Iijima, acting Consul General of Japan in Saint-Petersburg.
